About Us
Established in 1985,our company is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.
We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.
Our company objective is to eliminate pain and discomfort caused by lameness in all types of dairy and beef cattle in Ireland. In doing so we also wish to contribute to the performance and profitability of Irish farmers. As lameness rates in the top three factors which contribute to milk cows being culled ( along side mastitis and fertility issues ) this is an enormous cost to the dairy industry each year! Estimates vary, but if you contemplate each lame cow costing an average of £250 ( made up of lost production and condition, antibiotics, associated fertility problems and extra time and labour needed attending to the "lame mob" ) then multiply this by the number of limpies in your herd then it soon runs into thousands of pounds!!! It is not uncommon for some of the larger herds to have in excess of 30% of lame cows in the herd at one time.crush set at end of race ready to start trimming
As a professional hoof care company we would recommend trimming most cows feet at least once a year as a preventitive measure ( drying off time would be a great opportunity to check them over ). If not trimmed at that stage then cows with overgrown and mis-shapen feet, or cows that had been lame previously, should be given a routine trim in early lactation. Any cows which go lame should be treated as early as possible and certainly within 48 hours of first showing signs of problems.
As the most common problems are sole ulcers and white-line disruption, the affected claw should be properly trimmed and a block or shoe fitted to the good claw to transfer weight off the sore digit. Not enough blocks are used on lame cows. The cost of using a block is soon recouped by the return of milk and body condition, not to mention being able to return to the main herd almost immediately.
Digital dermatis is a big problem in a lot of herds and these cases should be treated asap to reduce the spread of the disease among the rest of the herd. We use wraps containing copper sulphate to quickly kill the dermatis spores and heal the affected areas. These wraps must be removed by the farmer after 4 days.
We have been hoof trimming cattle for over 30 years in Ireland, UK and New Zealand, treating approx. 15,000 cows per year. We use the latest hydraulic crushes for comfort and safety of cattle. Preventative trims and treatment of lame cows. Demotec Easy Blocs used to alleviate pain and aid recovery. We use the best equipment, tools and accessories on the market to offer a world class service to keep cows mobile and pain-free. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals.
We are agent for Anka Crushes in Ireland. We also buy and sell used crushes. We offer training courses (from 1 day basic to 5 day professional) for farmers, staff and people wishing to persue a career in the cattle foot care industry. We have trained hundreds of people and former students of our hoof care courses are now working in various locations around the world.
